Redhawks Take Game One against Hilbert; Weitzel and Cioffi both Smacking Homers

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche snagged a late lead and defeated Hilbert College Hawks Varsity 7-3 on Sunday. The game was tied at two with the Redhawks batting in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Lynn drew a walk, scoring one run after an error by the Hawk's catcher.

La Roche  got things started in the first inning. Kyle Weitzel hit a solo homer to left field. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Redhawks tied things up at two when Jake Bredl singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

After Hilbert  scored one run in the top of the sixth, LRU answered with one of their own. 

The Hawks scored when Patrick Whelan hit a solo home run. An answer from the Redhawks came back in the form of an error, scoring one run for the team. 

Jackson Rogers earned the win for La Roche University . The righthander went seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking zero.

Michael Contini took the loss for the Hawks. Contini went five innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits, striking out two and walking one.

La Roche smacked two home runs on the day. Weitzel had a four bagger in the first inning. 

Anthony Cioffi went for the long ball in the fifth inning.

The Redhawks totaled 11 hits in the game. Weitzel, Nathan Stutz, and Ben Dottle all collected multiple hits.

Dottle, Stutz, and Weitzel each collected two hits to lead the team. 

La Roche was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Justin Stancovich had the most chances in the field with ten.

This earned the first win needed to move on to the second round of AMCC Playoffs. Hilbert and La Roche will play one more. If Hilbert does not run away with the second game, the Redhawks will advance. If the Hawks pull a win out, there will be a third game played tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
