PITTSBURGH, PA - This afternoon the Redhawks battled hard with the Lions in a game that used all seven innings and needed every second of them. Both teams were tied going into the final inning of the game, but two home runs for Penn State-Behrend got them the win 7-5.
Ryan Lynn earned the RBI for the first run that the Redhawks put up in their first outing at bat. He hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Kyle Weitzel, who reached base on a triple to center field.
La Roche took the lead back in the second inning. Tyler Simpson, Ben Dottle, and Weitzel are all credited with RBIS for the inning.
Simpson started the rally with a double, Dottle followed with a single, and Weitzel reached on a fielder's choice. The new score was 4-2.
The Lions tied it up in the third, and then took the lead in the fourth by one run. The score: 5-4.
The Redhawks weren't ready to throw in the towel just yet. After two singles, one from Simpson, and one from Weitzel, and Lynn reaching on an error, the bases were loaded with Redhawks.
Nathan Stutz battled at the plate and was able to earn himself a walk, moving everyone on those loaded bases around, and scoring a run in the process.
La Roche and Penn State-Behrend were now tied 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The next two innings were silent without a run scored for either team. BUt it was in the seventh inning that the downfall came for the Redhawks.
Isaac Stouffer and Daniel Boehme were the heroes for the Lions today. Stouffer hit a lead off home run to start the inning, giving the Lions a one run lead. Boehme came up to the plate with two hours and was able to give the team some insurance, hitting a homerun himself before the final out was made.
The Redhawks could just not get their bats around to fight back in their showing at bat.
Earning RBIS in today's contest was Dottle, Lynn, Simpson, Stutz, and Weitzel.
Cameron Mauk was credited with today's loss. The hurler came out in relief and allowed two home runs. Mauk was also credited with two strikeouts.
Zack Oddi started the game, and threw four innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits and stuck out two.
Leading in hits was Jake Bredl who went three-for-four at bat. Simpson and Weitzel had two hits each.
