La Roche Battles in Extra Innings to Defeat Pioneers

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche University took the lead late in the game in a 7-5 victory over Alfred State College this afternoon.  The game was tied at four with La Roche batting in the top of the tenth when Zach Keib singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

The Redhawks knotted the game up at four in the top of the ninth inning, when Ryan Lynn doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

After La Roche scored one run in the top of the eighth, Alfred answered with one of their own. But the Redhawks were able to rally; Tanner Kobal doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Pioneers then answered when an error scored one run for Alfred State. 

Shawn Marcellus earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for La Roche.  The pitcher went two and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking zero. 

Shane Murphy threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Murphy recorded the last two outs to earn the save for La Roche.

Jackson Rogers started the game on the mound. The righty went seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out six and walking one.

The Redhawks totaled 14 hits in the game. Kyle Weitzel, Jake Bredl, Lynn, and Ben Dottle each collected multiple hits for La Roche University . Weitzel went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead LRU in hits.
