Redhawks Go 1-1 with Bobcats; Stancovich and Dottle Hitting Back-to-Back Home Runs

PITTSBURGH, PA - This afternoon La Roche baseball took on the Bobcats of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. In the Redhawks second to last home turf matchup they went 1-1 for the afternoon.

Game One

The first piece of the double header started off with promise.

Ryan Lynn got himself an RBI with a single out to center field, and was able to allow Kyle Weitzel to cross home plate. Putting the Redhawks on the board first. Unfortunately, this good note was short-lived.

In the second inning, the Bobcats got three runs over home plate, and then five more in the fourth inning. They went unanswered by La Roche until the bottom of the fourth inning where the team was able to get a run over the plate, Tanner Kobal created that scoring opportunity with a single to allow Justin Stancovich to score the run.

It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Redhawks warmed up on offense. The main highlight being Ben Dottle, and Stancovich homered back to back to bring La Roche within two.

Even with the two runs scored courtesy of Lynn and Nathan Stutz in the sixth inning, it was enough for the Redhawks to battle against the hot bats of the Bobcats. The only innings in which Pitt-Greensburg didn't put a run on the board was the first and third innings.

Shane Murphy took the loss for the Redhawks with a final score of 11-8. He threw just over three innings, and totaled 59 pitches with 42 recognized as strikes. The right hander  let nine hits and seven runs get by him.

Showing at the plate today was Weitzel with a triple, Tanner Kobal, Nathan Stutz, Justin Stancovich, and Ben Dottle all were awarded an RBI. Ryan Lynn and Dylan Chan each earned two RBIS.

Game Two

The rebound from game one was shown immediately for the Redhawks. The team scored seven runs in their first showing at bat.

Nathan Stutz started the rally with a single to left field, with bases loaded. Mason Brooks continued on the trend and singled to center field, scoring a run and still keeping the bases full of Redhawks.

Anthony Cioffi, Josh Dryer, Justin Stancovich, Ben Dottle all earned walked RBIS.

Kyle Weitzel got on base once more in the same inning on a fielder's choice, allowing Stancovich to sneak across home plate while the fielders were busy.

The final two runs of the seven run inning are credited to Stancovich who hit a double to center field, and pushed two more runs to score.

La Roche went to work at the plate once again and drove in three runs coming off the bats of Stutz, who drove in three runs, and Dreyer, Stutz himself was able to cross home plate on an error.

To put the final nail in the coffin, La Roche scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Bobcats tried to make a comeback, putting two runs in both the third and fourth innings but the damage had already been done.

Garrett LeMaster pitched La Roche University to victory. The righty surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out two. Shawn Marcellus threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Redhawks collected 13 hits. Mason Brooks, Josh Dreyer, Anthony Cioffi, and Stutz all collected multiple hits for La Roche University . Brooks went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits.

The team will be back in action on Saturday against Alfred State with first pitch at 1:00 PM.
