Redhawks Defeat Panthers 15-1, Rogers Goes Seven Innings Deep on the Mound

PITTSBURGH, PA - On this rainy day at the Baierl Athletic Complex the rain decided to hit the road for the second game of this afternoon's double header. The Redhawks were glad it did as they were able to pull out a 15-1 lead.

On the mound for the Redhawks in the second game of this afternoon's double header is Jackson Rogers. Rogers was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference pitcher of the week two weeks ago.

Rogers first inning goes as planned with three up and three down.

The bottom of the second inning showed more promise for the Redhawks as Anthony Cioffi reached base on a walk, and then quickly stole second, putting himself in scoring position.

The first run for La Roche was scored on an error by the shortstop. Ben Dottle then singled into center field, and then advanced to second on the throw as the Panthers tried to throw the runner out at third. Dylan Chan was able to make it home on the single, and Dottle earned an RBI. The Redhawks had two runs on the board for the first time today, and the lead.

The fourth inning saw the Redhawks score again. First with Justin Stancovich singling to left field, allowing Cioffi to score. Ben Dottle bunted to the pitcher, and should have been out, but there was not a Panther on first base to throw to, and loaded the bases for La Roche.

Kyle Wietzel rocked a shot to center field allowing Dottle and Chan to cross home plate, and earned himself two RBIS in the process.

Nathan Stutz decided to repay the favor and doubled to center field himself and drove in two RBIS. He was then able to reach third after an error on the cut off man who dropped the throw.

The Redhawks ended the fifth inning with Cioffi, who started the inning, popping out to shortstop. La Roche had five runs on five hits for the inning.

It was at this point that the Panthers traded out Kyler Majka for Shawn Mannering.

Bases were loaded again in the fifth inning with an error on the third basemen. Weitzel didn't earn a hit but he did earn an RBI with a sacrifice fly ball to center field, allowing Chan to score and the Redhawks to increase their lead.

Nathan Brooks singled to the shortstop, who was able to knock it down, but was unable to make a play, but Brooks was able to earn two RBIS with the hit.

Mannering loaded the bases once more before Pitt-Bradford made yet another pitching change to Austin Kitcey.

He let in two more runs after a single from Ryan Lynn, before Cioffi flied out to center field.

The sixth inning once again had the bases full of Redhawks and no outs as Dylan Kurcon came up to the plate. He earned himself an RBI walk and Kitcey moved the Redhawks around the horn.

Weitzel hit a sacrifice fly and was able to give Stancovich to tag at third and go home.

It was after this run that Branson Scarantine made his debut on the pitcher's mound. Scarantine allowed one more run to score as Mason Brooks hit a sacrifice fly of his own, earning an RBI as Ben Dottle tagged and then made a run for home plate.

The inning came to an abrupt end when Stutz was picked off first base after leaving too early.

Rogers was able to finish all seven innings on the mound, not issuing any walks until the sixth inning. He struck out five batters, allowed five hits, and only one run. He very nearly missed throwing his second shutout of the season. He will record the win for this afternoon.

La Roche will wrap up this second game of the double header with 15 runs, 11 hits, and one error.

Nathan Stutz went 2 for three at bats and earned two RBIS.

Leading in runs batted in was Kyle Weitzel with four for the second matchup.

Redhawks are back in action on Wednesday against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
