Allegheny College Defeats Resilient La Roche University

PITTSBURGH, PA - Today the Redhawks faced off against the Gators in a contest that was moved up a day to avoid the inclement weather. Regrettably, moving the game up did not get La Roche a win.

Game One

La Roche's effort to come back from down six runs in the third inning was just short. Mason Brooks, and Dante DeLillo fueled the rally, each getting contributing RBIs to push the team closer to the goal.

Brooks started with a single to center field and pushed Cioffi over the plate in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh and final inning of the game is where things started to move for the Redhawks.

Things got started with Nathan Stutz getting hit by a pitch and putting him on base. Brooks then hit a ground ball that the Gators' shortstop had an error in fielding. Christian Melendez grounded out to third base, but Stutz and Brooks were able to advance a base and move into prime scoring position.

Tyler Simpson was walked, and with that loaded all the bases for the Redhawks.

Dante DeLillo stepped up to the plate and rose to the occasion. Delillo doubled center field. On his hit, Stutz, Brooks, and Simpson all scored. The score was now 8-7 with two outs.

Unfortunately, even with the late game rally, they were not able to come back from the one run deficit.

DeLillo led the take with four RBIS and one hit. Mason Brooks followed behind him with two RBIs and two hits.

Jackson Rodgers started out the game for the Redhawks, he was able to strike out three batters in the three innings that he pitched.

Pitching the next four innings was Cameron Mauk. He gave up one hit, and zero walks. He threw 50 pitches and .720 of them were strikes.

Game Two

As the weather took a turn for the cold and rainy, so did the luck for La Roche. They were just not able to get a run on the board. They were still able to get some hits off.

Ben Dottle led the team with two hits. Kyle Weitzel, and Tyler Simpson each had one hit. One of Dottle's hits was a double.
