La Roche Falls to Penn St. Behrend in AMCC Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche University baseball team lost to Penn St. Behrend in the AMCC Championship best-of-three series Thursday afternoon. The teams split the first two games on Wednesday and the Lions took game three 7-5. La Roche had won six straight conference championships heading into today's game from 2014 to 2019 and have been to nine straight title games.

Senior pitcher Jake Seymour, junior shortstop Ryan Lynn and freshman third baseman Ben Dottle were named to the AMCC All-Tournament team.

How it Happened

The Redhawks got on the board in the bottom of the first when Jason Swope reached on a fielders choice to score Austin Hoffman to go up 1-0. 

Behrend quickly responded with three runs in the top of the second on three hits and a fielding error to take a 3-1 lead.

La Roche would tie the ball game up in the bottom of the fourth with two RBI singles from Ben Dottle and Hoffman.

After three scoreless innings, the Lions rattled off two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth off a sacrifice fly and two RBI singles to take a 7-3 lead.

Freshman Ben Dottle kept the Redhawks alive with his first collegiate home-run in the bottom of the eighth. Dottle hammered a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it 7-5. With no outs and a runner on second, LRU's next three batters struck-out, flied out and grounded out.

Inside the Box Score

Zack Oddi got the start on the mound and moved to 3-1 on the season. In 6.2 innings pitched, Oddi had two strike-outs, three walks and gave up three earned runs. Mike Nuzzo pitched the final 2.1 innings. He had two K's, a walk and gave up one earned run.

The Redhawks committed a season-high three fielding errors.

For the second game in a row, La Roche left double-digit batters on base (10).

Ben Dottle was the only Redhawk with multiple hits. Dottle went 2-for-4 with a HR and a career-high three RBI.
