Redhawks Sweep Hilbert in Season Opener Doubleheader

BUFFALO, Pa. - The Redhawks' bats exploded in their season opener twin bill at Hilbert College Thursday afternoon. LRU defeated the Hawks 13-0 in game one and 16-2 in game two. La Roche is now 2-0 on the season.

Game 1

How it Happened

With the bases loaded in the top of the first, Dylan Urban knocked in the first run of the year on a sacrifice fly. In the top of the third with the bases loaded once more, Tristan Tinney hit an RBI single to drive in two more runs to put LRU up 4-0.

The next inning, the Redhawks drove in a whopping eight runs. It started off when Jay Novak and Dylan Urban hit back-to-back RBI singles. Then Tinney bunted to drive in Novak and Urban scored on error as the Redhawks went up 9-0.

The next play, Austin Hoffman hit his fourth career homerun to drive in three more runs. Novak was up to bat again in the fourth and hit a double to make it 13-0.

Starting pitcher Jake Seymour got the W in game one. In 6.0 innings pitched, he had seven strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs. Tyler Vargon came in to close the game in the seventh inning and struckout every batter he faced (3).

Five different Redhawks recorded multiple hits and multiple RBI in game one. The Redhawks scored 12 runs in the third and fourth innings of the game. Austin Hoffman and Tristan Tinney led LRU with three RBI a piece.

Game 2

How it Happened

Jay Novak got things rolling in the first inning with an RBI single. In the very next at bat, Dylan Urban doubled to left center to put LRU up 2-0.

The Redhawks put up five runs in the fourth and eighth innings.

Tristan Tinney started the game on the mound and got the win. In 5.2 innings, he struckout eight batters and gave up three walks and two earned runs. Jackson Rogers and Cameron Mauk came in to close out the last 3.1 innings; neither allowed a hit or a run.

Four different Redhawks had multiple RBI and seven had at least one.

Austin Hoffman had two doubles and a game-high four RBI.

Dylan Urban homered in the 8th and finished with three RBI.

Ryan Lynn had a game-high four hits.

Five Redhawks got at least one double.

LRU baseball plays again this Saturday at Medaille in a conference doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
