Nationally Ranked Heidelberg Tops LRU, 8-4

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fl. - La Roche baseball suffered their first loss of the Snowbird Classic Tournament on Day Two against #20 Heidelberg, 8-4. The Redhawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead at the bottom of the first behind an RBI triple from Jason Swope and an RBI single from Philip Pieto. Heidelberg would answer by quickly taking the lead with three runs in the top of the second. Philip Pieto would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double, but the Student Princes would go off for five runs in the top of the 7th, a hole too big for the Redhawks to climb out of.

At the Plate

Junior 1B Philip Pieto led LRU with 2 RBIs, batting 3-5 at the plate, hitting two doubles and a single. Pieto has hit a team-high four XBH this season.

Sophomore SS Ryan Lynn was once again solid at bat, going 3-5 with two singles and a double. Ryan also scored two runs. Lynn leads the Redhawks with eight hits in four games this season (.471 BA).

Senior 3B Jason Swope drove in the Redhawks only other RBI on a triple in the bottom of the first, his second XBH this season. Swope batted 2-4 and scored two runs.

On the Mound

Junior LHP Tristan Tinney got the start in today's contest. Tinney went for 5.0 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 4 K, 3 R. All three runs that were scored during Tinney's play were unearned.

Sophomore RHP Zach Oddi came in to relieve Tinney at the top of the 6th. Oddi threw 60 pitches in 1.2 innings, walking three batters and striking out one. Oddi gave up three earned runs.

Senior RHP Mike Nuzzo (0.1) and Senior RHP Chris Hanlon (2.1) pitched the remainder of the game, neither allowed a run.

Inside the Box Score

As a unit, La Roche produced five extra base hits while Heidelberg hit zero. All seven of the Student Princes RBI's came off singles.

The Redhawks pitchers gave up just seven hits compared to the Student Princes pitchers who gave up 10.

Five of LRU's eight run's given up were unearned.

La Roche committed two errors in the field, Heidelberg committed none.

Both teams left ten runners on base.
