Redhawks Shut Down Medaille in Double Header

La Roche defeated Medaille in both games and moved to an 8-2 conference record. They topped Medaille in 7 innings in Game 1 and then proceeded to win the second game 14-4 in 9 innings.

The Redhawks began their crusade in the second inning of game 1. Senior outfielder Johnathan Melendez grounded out to 3rd base, moving Troy Kifer to third and Tristin Tinney home safe for a run.

La Roche continued to do damage in the top of the third inning. Senior catcher, Joseph Professori reached first on an error and Jon Spina scored to make it 2-0. Brandon Nania then poked a single to the outfield, advancing Shane Roebuck to third and scoring Professori. Medaille made another error in the inning which allowed Roebuck to score.

The Redhawks added to their lead in the top of the sixth. Spina reached base on a fielder's choice which moved Johnathan Melendez to third and Troy Kifer home. A Medaille error in the next at bat allowed Melendez to score to put the Redhawks up 6-0. 

Nania added a run in the seventh inning and La Roche went on to win 7-0.

Preseason All-American Tre Thomas threw a complete game shutout. Thomas allowed just one walk and 3 hits and while striking out 9. 57 of his 76 pitches were strikes.

Hoffman and Nania both doubled. Professori, Nania and Melendez hit in runners. Jonathan Spina and Troy Kifer both stole bases.

The Redhawks dominance continued into Game 2.

Jay Novak scored on a passed ball to to give the Redhawks a 1-0 second inning lead. Austin Hoffman popped a single into the outfield in the next at bat driving home Melendez. Jon Spina then lined a shot to the outfield to bring in Austin Hoffman to score.

Shane Roebuck used a balk to give the Redhawks a 4-0 lead in the third. La Roche added a fifth run on a Troy Kifer ground out which scored Nania.

Medaille collecte a run in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Joe Professori drove a ball to deep center field to score both Jon Spina and Austin Hoffman. Brandon Nania followed with a ground out to advance Professori home.

The Redhawk offense exploded for seven in the fifth inning. Austin Hoffman got things started, reaching first on an error and scoring Johnathan Melendez and Troy Kifer. Shane Roebuck reached first off an error as well, moving Joe Professori to third and Austin Hoffman home. Brandon Nania doubled to deep right field to bring home Shane Roebuck and Joe Professori. To close out the inning, sophomore Tristin Tinney singled to score Brandon Nania. The Redhawks close the 5th inning up 14-1.

Medaille collected a run in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth.

Alek Tesla got the start and tossed 5 innings to earn the win. Tesla gave up just 2 runs and struck out 6. Four Redhawk pitchers each threw an inning to finish the game. Mike Nuzzo, Zach Oddi, and Chris Hanlon each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Jonathan Spina went 4 for 6, with a run and RBI. Professori finished with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and 2 doubles. Nania hit in three and scored twice. Hoffman had three runs and Melendez two.

La Roche moves to 15-9 overall and they will host Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday.
