Baseball Sweeps Hilbert, Takes Game One 7-4, Game Two 18-3

BUFFALO, NY -- The La Roche University Baseball team took the road for a double header in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks came away with a pair of victories, taking down Hilbert in Game One 7-4 and Game Two 18-3. La Roche improves to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in the AMCC. They will host Wooster College in a double-header tomorrow at 2pm and 4:30pm.

Shane Roebuck gave the Redhawks an early 2-0 lead, blasting his third homer of the year to score Joe Professori. La Roche added three runs in the second inning. Jonathan Melendez kept the inning alive with a two out single while Adam Hoffman followed with a walk. Professori came through with a single up the middle and a 3-0 lead. Jay Novak reached on an error in the next at bat as Hoffman and Professori scored.

Starting pitcher Travis Holman did not allow a run until the fifth inning, when they struck for three. The Redhawks immediately answered with a Roebuck 2-run single to left, scoring Professori and Troy Kifer.

Roebuck went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI, run, home run and double. Professori scored three runs and Novak hit in two. Holman struck out 8 over 7 innings to earn the victory.

 

La Roche 18 Hilbert 3

The Redhawks scored multiple runs in 5 of the first 6 innings. Roebuck got things going with an RBI double in the first inning and Professori followed with a 2-run homer in the third inning. A 7-run fifth inning highlighted the game which La Roche hit through their lineup almost twice.

La Roche's pitching was just as good. Dustin Lander cruised through the Hilbert lineup and allowed just four base runners in seven innings to earn the win. Maddux Ryan took over in the eighth inning and tossed a scoreless inning.

Professor went 4 for 6 with 5 RBI, 4 runs, and a home run. Spina hit in four and scored twice. Pieto had 4 RBIs.
