Baseball Falls at Heidelberg 7-6

The La Roche University Baseball team dropped a non-conference game on Wednesday at Heidelberg 7-6.

Tre Thomas threw a scoreless bottom of the first and the Redhawks took a 1-0 lead in top of the second. Shane Roebuck led off the inning with a double down the line. Jay Novak followed with a walk and Jonathan Spina beat out a bunt to load the bases. Brandon Nania then used a groundout to second for the game's opening run.

Heidelberg scored in the bottom of the second but La Roche struck for three in the top of the third. Austin Hoffman and Joe Professori hit one-out singles and Roebuck lined a double into center field to score Hoffman. Two batters later, Spina hit a two-out single up the middle to drive in Roebuck and Novak. 

Heidelberg did not let the Redhawks pull away, scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings. 

Spina put the Redhawks up 6-4 in the top of the fifth, beating out an infield single to third base. Heidelberg got the run back in the bottom of the inning.

Hoffman answered in the top of the sixth, providing a 2-out RBI single to right field, scoring Dylan Urban.

Heidelberg evened it in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice on an error. They then took the lead on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. 

The Redhawks stranded runners at third base in the eighth and ninth innings, and Heidelberg held on.

Roebuck went 3 for 5 with 3 doubles, 2 runs, and an RBI. Spina went 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Hoffman had 2 hits, scored, and hit in a run.

Thomas tossed 2 innings and did not allow an earned run. Tre Cunningham threw a scoreless inning in relief.
