Jonathan Spina led the game off with a single and stole his way to third base. Dylan Urban followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 1-0 Redhawk lead. Joe Professori drew took a 3-2 pitch for a ball, and Jay Novak came through with a 2-out triple to right field for a two run lead.
Marietta used a pair of 2-RBI triples and an error to score six runs in the bottom of the second. The Redhawks responded with five runs in the top of the third.
Austin Hoffman led off the third with a single and Professori reached base on an error. Urban then sent a single through the left side to load the bases. Novak came through again, beating out a hit to third base to score Hoffman.
A Shane Roebuck single up the middle scored Professori and Urban, and Troy Kifer tied it with a single up the left field line. Tristin Tinney lined into a double-play, but Roebuck advanced home before the inning was over for a 7-6 lead.
Marietta evened it with a run-scoring fielder's choice in the fourth inning, but Roebuck and Kifer answered with RBIs in the top of the fifth.
The Pioneers tied it with runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, but the Redhawks took the lead for good in the top of the seventh. Brandon Nania was hit by a pitch and Roebuck doubled him to third base. A Kifer sac fly scored Nania and Austin Hoffman doubled in Roebuck.
Novak and Kifer added RBIs in the eighth inning and Professori homered in the ninth. Zach Oddi and Mike Nuzzo threw two scoreless innings of relief.
Kifer hit in five while Professori scored four runs. Roebuck reached base five times with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Novak went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI, 3 runs, a double and triple.
Tesla allowed just one earned run over five innings.
Marietta 7 La Roche 4
Urban gave the Redhawks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Spina and Hoffman led off the game with back-to-back singles before Urban drove it up the middle to score both.
Starting pitcher Dustin Lander left Marietta runners on in the first and second innings. The Pioneers scored four in the third inning. Marietta led off the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. A walk cut the deficit to one, then a pair of one-out singles gave Marietta a 4-2 lead.
The Redhawks got one back in the fourth inning. Tinney kept the inning alive with a 2-out single into left field before Spina hit him home.
Garren Telesz threw a scoreless fourth inning, but Marietta struck for two in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Kifer came through with an RBI single scoring Urban in the seventh, but the Redhawks were held off the board in the eighth and ninth innings.
Tinney went 3 for 4 with a run. Urban hit in two and scored.
