NCAA Mideast Regional: Redhawks Conclude Season With 8-5 Loss to Wabash

ADRIAN, MI -- La Roche College fell to Wabash 8-5 in an NCAA Mideast Region elimination game on Saturday evening. The Redhawks' conclude the 2018 season with a 35-10-1 record and as champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

The Redhawks let six to cross home plate in the top of the first. They left a man on in the second as Wabash entered the second up 6-0.

La Roche settled down in the second inning. Jay Novak saved a run with a sliding catch in the top of the inning. The Redhawks took advantage in the bottom of the second. Austin Hoffman and Jay Novak hit back to back one-out singles and Dylan Urban came through with a single through the left side.

Alek Tesla entered in relief. He sent Wabash down 1-2-3 in the third and fourth innings.

The Little Giants tacked on a pair in the top of the fifth.

La Roche got two on base in the bottom of the inning. Jon Spina and Jonathan Melendez  provided singles but a strikeout, groundout ended the inning.

Senior Shane Emrich entered to start the sixth and sent Wabash down in order. He followed with a perfect seventh and a hitless eighth.

Senior Jesse Savisky concluded his career with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Redhawks battled through to the final out and cut the deficit to three runs with one out in the ninth. Quahliero drew a 3-2 walk to get things going. The Redhawks went first to third with a Spina single and Quahliero scored on a sacrifice fly.

Shane Roebuck forced the Wabash defense to make a tough play with a shot to third base. The throw sailed into right field which allowed Spina to score.

Roebuck and Jonathan Melendez both slid home on a wild pitch and an 8-5 game. La Roche had momentum but could not get the tying run to the plate and Wabash held on.

Emrich struck out five in three scoreless innings. Novak had three hits and reached base four times. Urban and Professori hit in one while Quahliero, Spina, Melendez, Roebuck, and Hoffman all scored runs.
