La Roche Opens NCAA Regional With 5-1 Victory Over Ithaca, Advance In Winner's Bracket

ADRIAN, MI -- #3 La Roche College Baseball is moving on in the NCAA Mideast Regional. The Redhawks opened the tournament with a 5-1 victory over #6 Ithaca and advance to play tomorrow at 7:45pm against the #2 Otterbein vs #7 Adrian winner.

Tre Thomas allowed just one run over 6.2 innings to improve to 9-1. Jake Seymour tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and Shane Emrich closed it in the ninth.

Jonathan Melendez drove in two. Austin Hoffman had two hits and scored while Jay Novak hit in one and scored.

Thomas opened with a hitless top of the first inning and the Redhawks struck for a run in the bottom of the inning.

Jon Spina started things with a double into centerfield and scored on a Quahliero groundout to third base.

Thomas used a 6-4-3 double play in the second inning and the Redhawks tacked on another in the second. Urban reached and stole second base. He scored on a groundout to third.

Ithaca got on the board with a run in the top of the third but La Roche answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning.

Austin Hoffman and Jay Novak reached base and Jonathan Melendez singled up the middle to score both.

Thomas left runners on base in the fourth and sixth innings and Novak provided an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Ithaca was threatening in the top of the seventh. Jake Seymour entered with two outs and runners on, and got a comebacker to get a big out.

Seymour got a flyout to leave a runner on third to end the eighth.

Shane Emrich entered to close it out. Two runners reached but he got a pop out to Quahliero to end it.
