Roebuck Belts Walk-Off Homer, Tesla and Lewis Outduel #25 Marietta as #17 La Roche Picks Up Sweep

PITTSBURGH, PA -- #17 La Roche College picked up a big double header sweep, downing #25 Marietta 2-1, 3-1 on Monday afternoon. Shane Roebuck hit a walk-off homer to end game one while Ethan Lewis tossed five hitless innings in the game two win.

Game 1:

Jay Novak sent it into extras with a seventh inning homer and a Shane Roebuck homer walked it off in the ninth for a 2-1 La Roche win.

Redhawks' starter Alek Tesla battled with Marietta starter Dalton Wiggins in a pitcher's duel.

Tesla struck out the final two batters to leave a runner at second base in the second.

Marietta led off the third inning with a double to the right field gap. A sac bunt advanced the runner to second. Telsa got a ground ball to third and Christian Hirt caught the runner trying to advance home.

Telsa tossed a perfect top of the fourth and left runners at first and second in the fifth. The Redhawks however stranded runners at third in the fourth and fifth innings.

Jake Seymour entered in the sixth and sent the Pioneers down in order. Gino Quahliero walked and stole second in the bottom of the inning, but was stranded on a groundout.

Marietta tripled and scored for a 1-0 lead midway through the seventh.

Jay Novak came to the plate to open the bottom of the seventh. With one swing of the bat, Novak tied it with a dinger deep over the left-centerfield wall.

Seymour did a great job of keeping it at 1-1 after a leadoff double in the eighth. Shane Emrich sent Marietta down in order in the top of the ninth.

Shane Roebuck entered the batter's box in the top of the ninth. Roebuck sent a 1-0 fastball deep over the Redhawk wall to walk it off and give La Roche a 2-1 victory.

Tesla threw five scoreless innings and allowed just three baserunners. Shane Emrich improved to 3-0.

Game 2:

Ethan Lewis earned the start and tossed a perfect first inning.

Jon Spina got things going with a run in the bottom of the first. Spina hit a leadoff double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Joe Professori broke the tie with an RBI single to left field.

Lewis followed with two more perfect innings. Marietta got their first runner on base in the fourth, but Lewis brought his no-hit bid into the fifth inning.

Lewis got through the fifth without allowing a hit. In the bottom of the fifth, Elmo Trickett reached on an error and advanced to third on a hit and run. Trickett's break for second base drew the second basemen which allowed Quahliero to easily find the crack in the Marietta defense.

Trickett and Quahliero put on a double steal to allow Trickett to advance home. Spina doubled home Quahliero.

Lewis exited after five innings without giving up a hit.

Marietta broke up the no-no with a double with one out in the sixth. They got on the board with an RBI double two batters later.

The Pioneers got two on base in the seventh, but Emrich got a strike out for his sixth save.

Lewis tossed five hitless innings to improve to 3-0. Spina had 2 doubles, a run and RBI.
