#17 Baseball Falls to Heidelberg in Non-Conference Action on Wednesday Evening

PITTSBURGH, PA – #17 La Roche College dropped a non-conference game to Heidelberg on Wednesday afternoon.

Heidelberg used a pair of triples to jump out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first inning. The Redhawks went down in order in the bottom of the first.

Starting pitcher Tre Thomas followed with a scoreless second and the Redhawks got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Gino Qualhiero reached on an infield single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Quahliero scored on a Dylan Urban fielder's choice.

La Roche left two aboard in the bottom of third and Heidelberg added five in the top of the fourth.

Relief pitcher Alek Tesla tossed a scoreless fifth inning. He followed with a scoreless sixth and used two groundouts to get out of a one-out jam with runners on second and third base.  

The Redhawks cut the deficit to four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Austin Hoffman led off with a double and scored on a Jonathan Melendez single to left. Joe Professori singled through the left side to score Melendez.

Shane Roebuck was hit by a pitch to load em up and Quahliero came through with a 2-out bases loaded single. In the next at bat, the Redhawks had the tying run at the plate, but a flyout kept it an 8-4 game.

Maddux Ryan sent Heidelberg down in order in the eighth.

Shane Emrich tossed a scoreless ninth but the Redhawk offense was not able to convert in the bottom of the inning.

Quahliero reached base three times, hit in one and scored. Melendez had an RBI and scored.

Tesla tossed 3 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Ryan and Emrich each threw a scoreless inning.
