#21 Redhawks Soaring, Sweep D'Youville

PITTSBURGH, PA – #21 La Roche College Baseball cruised to a double header sweep over D'Youville on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks took game one 9-6 before breaking it open in game two 18-5.

Game 1:

Shane Roebuck singled home Jonathan Spina but the Redhawks left runners on second and third in the top of the first.

D'Youville answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. La Roche put a runner on third base in the second inning but he was caught trying to score on an infield single.

The Spartans beat out an infield single to extend the lead to 3-1 in the second inning. Starter Regis Sauer struck out three in the inning.

The Redhawks took back the lead with five runs in the third inning. Professori singled in his 400th career at bat and Urban followed with a walk. Shane Roebuck doubled home Professori and Jay Novak continued his hot streak with an RBI single through the left side. Jonathan Melendez added an RBI groundout before the Redhawks loaded the bases. Jon Spina hit in two with a single to right field.

D'Youville put a man on third in the third but Austin Hoffman made a great play to get the Redhawks out of the inning.

Sauer tossed a perfect fourth inning and Professori singled home Hoffman in the top of the fifth inning.

Chris Hanlon came in relief and needed just fourteen pitches to get through the fifth and sixth innings.

Spina singled in Hoffman and Trickett for a 9-3 lead halfway through the seventh. D'Youville struck for three in the bottom of the seventh but the Redhawks earned the 9-6 victory.

Sauer struck out 7 over 4 innings to improve to 3-0. Hanlon tossed three innings of relief to earn his first save.

Spina went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs and scored. Hoffman went 2 for 3 with 3 runs and a pair of walks.

Game 2:

The Redhawks broke out for 8 runs in the first inning. They scored 5 more in the second inning and the rout was on.

Twelve different Redhawks registered hits. Hirt belted a home run and went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs and 2 runs. Spina had 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 RBIs, and stole 2 bases. Roebuck, Quahliero, Hoffman, and Melendez all scored twice. Professori and Melendez each hit in two.

Ethan Lewis struck out 7 in 5 innings to record the win. TJ Kinkopf struck out three in a scoreless inning of relief. Jesse Savisky tossed a perfect ninth inning.
