PITTSBURGH, PA -- #21 La Roche remains a game up on Pitt-Greensburg after splitting a double-header with the Bobcats 15-3 (L), 8-4 (W) on Wednesday afternoon.
Game 1:
The Redhawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Jon Spina was hit by the second pitch of the game and scored on a Jay Novak liner into left field.
Starter Nick Tunstall left runners at the corners in the bottom half of the inning, but Pitt-Greensburg struck for four runs in the second inning.
La Roche got a run back in the top of the third. Joe Professori drew a four pitch walk and scored on an error in right field.
Alek Tesla tossed a scoreless third inning. The Redhawks stranded a pair in the fourth and Pitt-Greensburg tacked on three more in the bottom of the inning.
La Roche loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning. Johnathan Melendez was hit by a 2-1 pitch to make it a 7-3 ballgame, but two straight outs ended the threat. Pitt-Greensburg made it 10-3 in the bottom of the inning and Pitt-Greensburg went on to win 15-3.
Game 2:
Starting pitcher Regis Sauer sent Pitt-Greensburg down in order to end the first inning. The Redhawk offense backed Sauer with two runs in the top of the second inning.
Novak and Melendez led off with singles and advanced to second and third base on a passed ball. Hoffman followed with a two-out single for a 2-0 lead.
Dylan Urban singled and scored in the top of the third. Pitt-Greensburg got on the board in the bottom of the inning but Elmo Trickett answered with his first career home run for a 4-1 lead.
Pitt-Greensburg tied it in the fourth inning. Tre Thomas came in relief and tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
Novak came to the plate with a man on in the eighth inning. He came through and broke the tie with a 2-run shot to score Roebuck. Hoffman hit a ball through the right side to score Gino Quahliero three batters later.
Trickett added an RBI in the ninth inning as the Redhawks went on to win 8-4.
Novak and Hoffman each had three RBIs and Trickett hit in two. Novak and Roebuck scored twice.
Thomas improved to 5-0 on the season.
