Tunstall Shuts Down Waynesburg as Redhawks Sweep Double Header

WAYNESBURG, PA -- #7 (The Pefect Game Poll) La Roche improved to 9-3 on the season after sweeping a pair of games on Sunday at Waynesburg. The Redhawks found two different ways to earn wins, cruising 9-0 in Game 1 and squeaking out a 5-4 victory in Game 2.

Game 1:

Nick Tunstall threw six scoreless innings and Jon Spina went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles in the Rehawks 9-0 Game 1 victory.

La Roche scored twice in the opening frame. Spina led off with a single and scored the game's winning run on a passed ball. Two batters later, Max Ryan singled home Dylan Urban for a 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks put runners on first and third in the second inning. Elmo Trickett drew a throw from the catcher while taking second base and Jonathan Melendez made a heads up play advancing home. Trickett scored in the same at bat when Austin Hoffman lined a hit into right field.

Tunstall sent Waynesburg down in order in the bottom half of the second. La Roche tacked on another in the top of the third. Urban swiped first and second base before scoring on a wild pitch.

Tunstall kept the Yellow Jackets off balance and the La Roche offense tacked on four runs in the final two innings. Spina provided an RBI double and Joe Professori a 2-run single through the left side in the sixth. Gino Quahliero singled in Melendez in the seventh. Garren Telesz entered in relief and pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Tunstall picked up the win, scrattering two hits over six innings while striking out eight. He has not allowed a run in fourteen innings.

Spina went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, 2 runs and an RBI. Professori hit in two while Urban, Melendez and Trickett scored twice.

Game 2:

A Dylan Urban single scored Joe Professori from second base to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Starter Cam Smith stranded a runner at third in the first inning and at first and second base in the second inning.

Waynesburg got on the board with a run in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. La Roche answered with four runs in the fifth inning. 

Austin Hoffman led off with a triple and tied it on a fielder's choice. Professori followed with an RBI to left for a 3-2 Redhawk lead. Professori scored on an error while Jonathan Melendez singled up the middle to score Urban.

Waynesburg got two back in the bottom of the fifth. They had the tying run on third base, but Jake Seymour got a strikeout to hold onto the lead. 

The Yellow Jackets were again threatening in the bottom of the seventh. They had the tying run on third, but Shane Emrich got a strikeout to end it.

Smith earned the win and Emrich the save. Professori scored twice and hit in one. Melendez had two hits and Urban an RBI and run.
