Herstine, Navedo, Wilt, Lazor, Sauer, Lemley and Coach Rowe Rewarded With Spots on the All-Region Team

The La Roche Baseball team continues to be rewarded for their individual seasons as they depart for the NCAA Division III College World Series. Six players were nominated to the 2016 Mideast Region Team, and Chase Rowe is the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Outfielder Luis Navedo (Vega, Alta, PR) and Tanner Wilt (Pittsburgh, PA) were named to D3Baseball's and ABCA All-Region First Teams. Ben Herstine (Beaver, PA) was a D3Baseball All-Region First Team Selection and on the ABCA All-Region Second Team. Regis Sauer (Pittsburgh, PA) made both ABCA All-Region Second Team and D3Baseball's All-Region Third Team. Bethel Park High School teammates Corey Lazor (D3Baseball All-Region Second Team) and David Lemley (ABCA All-Region Third Team) were also named All-Region players. 

Chase Rowe is the back to back Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Rowe guided the Redhawks to their third straight AMCC Conference Championship and the program's first Mideast Regional Championship. His La Roche squad is ranked 11th in the country in the final D3Baseball Top 25 poll and in the top 15 in two other national polls. Coach Rowe has won the AMCC Coach of the year in five of the past six seasons.

Ben Herstine adds to his list of personal accolades that includes AMCC Player of the Year and Mideast Regional MVP. Herstine led the AMCC in runs, RBIs, total bases, and triples. He ranked second in the league in home runs, slugging percentage and hits, fifth in batting average and eighth in on base percentage. Herstine also broke the school's single season RBI record and was an excellent defensive first baseman leading the AMCC in putouts and double plays.

Luis Navedo pairs his Mideast First Team nomination with his AMCC All-Conference First Team. Navedo had one of the best days in school history hitting 4 home runs and 8 RBIs in a double-header at Pitt-Greensburg. That week he made D3Baseball's Team of the Week, was a National Player of the Week Honorable Mention, and also was the AMCC Player of the Week.

Tanner Wilt combines his Mideast First team nomination with the 2016 AMCC Pitcher of the Year. Wilt was one of the best pitchers in the country making D3Baseball's Team of the Week twice and earning AMCC Player of the Week honors twice. Wilt ranked 4th in the nation in WHIP, 7th in the nation in strikeouts and ERA, and 8th in hits allowed.

Corey Lazor adds his Second Team nomination with an AMCC All-Conference Second Team. On the season, Lazor led the AMCC in hits, triples, total bases and at bats. He was second in runs, third in slugging percentage, fourth in batting average and RBIS, sixth in home runs, seventh in doubles, and ninth in stolen bases. Lazor also broke the school's single season record in RBIs and hits.

Regis Sauer Second/Third Team Nomination culminates a terrific sophomore season. Sauer led the AMCC with eight wins while ranking third in ERA, third in starts and fourth in innings pitched.

David Lemley earned All-Region Third Team after being one of the top all-around players in the AMCC this season. Lemley led the AMCC in home runs, ranked third in RBIs and fourth in slugging percentage. He also went 2-1 with a 0.67 ERA against AMCC competition and had a complete game victory in La Roche's 4-2 win over Penn State Behrend in the AMCC Championship Game.

The Mideast Regional winning La Roche Baseball team will look to add to their national recognition when they travel to Appleton, WI for the College World Series. First game will be against Wisconsin- Whitewater at 8:45pm.​
