NCAA Mideast Regional: Lemely's Complete Game, Podvasnik's Record-Breaking Homer Guide La Roche Past W&J

WASHINGTON, PA -- The 2015 La Roche Baseball team is going where no Redhawk team has gone before! With a 4-1 victory over host Washington & Jefferson, La Roche moves on to Championship Saturday of the NCAA Mideast Regional. They will play Heidelberg at noon tomorrow. If La Roche wins the noon game, they will play the winner of tonight's Heidelberg vs. Frostburg State game. Cory Podvasnik also made history by breaking the school's single season home run mark with his eleventh of the season.

Starting pitcher David Lemely tossed the Redhawks third complete game in a row. He gave up just one run and scattered 5 hits over 9 innings.

La Roche struck first on a Podvasnik RBI single to left field scoring Luis Navedo. Washington & Jefferson was threatening in the third inning with runners on second and third but Tyler Craig made a back-handed scoop and Podvasnik picked a ball off the turf to end the inning. Craig came through again in the fourth turning a double play to help Lemely get out of a bases loaded no-out jam.

The Redhawks extended the lead to two runs in the fifth on a Colin Williamson sacrifice fly to deep centerfield. W&J got one back in the sixth but another Feikles-Craig double play kept the lead.

Then in the bottom half of the inning Podvasnik hit his record-breaking home run. Lemely shut the President's down over the final three innings and struck out a pair in the ninth inning.

Podvasnik hit in three runs and Williamson had an RBI. Navedo scored twice with Podvasnik and Sabatini adding runs.
